Surveying Compass

photo of compass

Leica (?) surveying compass. This unit is believed to be ex-military and is painted a "military green". The compass is fitted with a telescope with cross-hairs for sighting and an X-Y spirit level to ensure that it is being operated completely flat.

The whole assembly is mounted on what seems to be a ball and socket joint, with a knurled wheel which tightens the joint to lock the unit in position. There is a knob on the underside of the compass body to allow the body to rotate freely. When this knob is tightened, precise rotation (azimuth) adjustment may be made by a second knob that rotates the body a few degrees.

A further knob on the compass body itself has an unknown function.

Hewlett Packard Oscilloscope

photo of oscilloscope

Hewlett Packard 1471A 100MHz storage oscilloscope. I do not know how old this instrument is but, irrespective of age, it does what I need it to.

The photograph shows traces for gate (upper) and drain (lower) signals of a MOSFET transistor in a malfunctioning inverter.
